Our Goal is to Strengthen and Promote the
Republican Party in the Northend
|
The History of the "Republican"
involvement in Springfield Township started in 1977.
It was hard battle but with team work, togetherness and
determination it worked ....A total "GRASS ROOTS"
EFFORT! |
| 1977 |
First organization meeting of
Springfield Township was held. The purpose was
to put together a slate of officers. Set-up
campaign's for the Offices of Supervisor and
Road Commissioner. Lost every office 3 to
1 Democrat. |
| 1980 |
Managed Joe Bonefeste's
campaign for County Board. He won and that
helped get the ball rolling and let people now
that the "Republicans" could win in Springfield
Township. At that time all nine
Springfield Township offices were Democrat. |
| 1984 |
Formed the "Republican Club
of Springfield Township" Twenty-five people
attended which was mostly committeemen. |
| 1985 |
Put Slate together for
Township offices out of Club members.
Strategy for campaigns was to work as a "Team
Concept" and to show what they could do to make
the Township a better place to live. We took
control of Township offices with
Supervisor, two Trustees, Clerk
Tax Collector and Assessor. |
| 1986 |
Won all three County Board Seats in Township |
| 1989 |
Won all nine Township offices
- 9 in'89 was our slogan. At this time we
had built the Club membership up to a 600
household mailing. We had control of every
office pertaining to Springfield Township at the
local level. |
| 1993 |
Kept building the Club and
again won all nine offices in Springfield
Township and retained County Board seats which
was then four |
| 1997 |
Again, won all nine Springfield Township
offices. Club is still strong. |
| 1999 |
Reorganized Club and changed
the name from Republican Club of Springfield
Township to Greater Springfield Township
Northenders Republican Club. We currently
have membership of 300 households and still
growing. The Club's goal is 1200
households. |
|
When Raymond Poe was nominated (year not known) to run
for Representative in the 99th District, it was the
first Representative on the Republican side to represent
the Township since Irv Smith was our Representative.
Back in 1977 there wasn't a Republican in
any office except for 15 committeemen and no
one worked for the State that we can recall.
The Republican Club of Springfield Township
purpose was to elect Republican's to
Springfield Township offices and by full
filling this commitment it provided a better
place to live. The Republican's
elected officials were able to work together
to install street lights in all of
Springfield township for safety, implemented
a paving program to upgrade the roads,
cleaned and graveled all the ally ways and
drainage ditches were cleaned. We have
offered an open door policy, helped people
find jobs and cut the welfare roll down to
under fifteen. One
of the most beneficial programs that the
Republican Club of Springfield
Township/Springfield Township Elected
Officials, came from the introduction of the
"We Care Concert". The We Care
Concerts provides food baskets at Christmas
time for the needy in Springfield Township.
We have just celebrated fifteen years this
past December and delivered 185 food baskets
in the Northend. The We Care Concerts
helps all in need, it doesn't draw any lines
on who to help. Your party affiliation
is not looked at and we are very proud of
that. |
